As a key structural component of the thymic microenvironment, thymus epithelial cells (TECs) support the development and positive/negative selection of T lymphocytes by producing cytokines, chemokines, self-antigens, and extracellular matrix proteins. These cells express key markers like Foxn1 and MHC II, confirming their thymic epithelial identity. They are non-immortalized, retain a normal diploid karyotype, maintaining physiological relevance in vitro. Typically cryopreserved at early passages. Due to their role in shaping central immune tolerance, these cells are widely used to model autoimmune disorders, thymic involution, and T cell repertoire selection in research.
