    C57BL/6 Mouse Type II Alveolar Epithelial Cells are primary cells isolated from the lung tissue of C57BL/6 mice. They display irregular shapes and adhere as monolayer clusters on fibronectin-coated surfaces. These cells constituting 2-5% of the alveolar surface area, are cryopreserved after primary culture and typically exhibit limited passaging capacity. Functionally, these cells synthesize and secrete pulmonary surfactants to maintain alveolar stability and fluid homeostasis through active Na+ transport. They also serve as progenitor cells, differentiating into alveolar type I cells to repair epithelial damage.
