Cell Name: CCD-18Co

Human colon fibroblast, normal, ethnicity: Black. Derived from biopsy colon tissue of a black female infant (2.5 Months old). CCD 18Lu and CCD-18Co were derived from the lung and colon respectively from the same patient; This has been confirmed by STR profile.

  • Description
CCD-18Co cell line is a human colon fibroblast cell line derived from normal colon tissue of a 2.5-month-old Black female infant. These cells exhibits a fibroblast-like morphology and grow in an adherent monolayer. Subculturing is recommended at a split ratio of 1:2 to 1:3 every 2 to 3 days. CCD-18Co retains a diploid karyotype, typical for normal human fibroblasts. Functionally, the cell line demonstrate responsiveness to cytokine stimulation, including increased prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production and upregulated COX-2 expression upon IL-1βtreatment. The stable phenotype and responsiveness make it a validated model for studying colon fibroblast physiology, extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions, and inflammation signaling pathways.

  • Application
CCD-18Co, a non-transformed cell line, plays a central role in cancer and inflammation research. It is commonly used as a normal control in cancer studies, particularly for delineating epithelial-stromal interactions in co-culture systems. The cell line is instrumental in modeling the tumor microenvironment, enabling analysis of fibroblast-mediated signaling and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. Additionally, CCD-18Co cells serves as a valuable in vitro model for investigating pathological fibrosis and inflammatory responses in the colon, providing key insights into conditions such as colitis and colon-associated fibrotic disorders.
