    CRFK (Crandell-Rees Feline Kidney) is a feline kidney epithelial cell line originally derived from the renal tissue of a healthy adult domestic shorthair cat. CRFK cells exhibit epithelial-like morphology and grow adherently in culture. The stemline karyotype analysis reveals a near-diploid chromosome count of 38 (2n=38). CRFK cells are highly susceptibile to feline calicivirus (FCV) and other feline-specific pathogens. CRFK lacks tumorigenic potential in immunodeficient mice. Due to their permissiveness to viral replication, CRFK cells have become a a cornerstone model for studying feline viral pathogenesis and evaluating antiviral drug compounds.
