Cell Name: DMS 153

Human Caucasian lung small cell carcinoma, metastasis to liver. DMS 153 was isolated from the liver of a 44 year-old male patient at autopsy who had been treated with cytoxan and amethopterin.

  • Description
DMS 153 is a human small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) cell line derived from the liver metastasis tissue of a 44-year-old Caucasian male patient diagnosed with metastatic SCLC. This cell line exhibits epithelial-like morphology and adherent growth with a doubling time of approximately 48–72 hours. DMS 153 harbors a TP53 mutation (exon 5, codon 155: Thr→Pro) and secretes bioactive peptides, including calcitonin, adrenocorticotropic hormone, and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). It expresses characteristic surface markers such as Leu7, My23, and CD11b and demonstrates tumorigenic potential in immunodeficient mice, forming subcutaneous tumors upon xenotransplantation. DMS 153 shows metastatic origin and peptide hypersecretion profile make it valuable for studying SCLC paraneoplastic syndromes and immune interactions.

  • Application
DMS 153 cell line serves as a key experimental model in the study of small cell carcinoma (SCLC), an aggressive and highly metastatic cancer subtype. Researchers widely utilize this cell line to identify novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for SCLC and exploring the neuroendocrine phenotype associated with paraneoplastic syndromes. The cell line is also instrumental in evaluating anticancer therapeutics, particularly those targeting apoptotic pathways, and in testing immunomodulatory strategies. Its peptide secretion profile and tumorigenic behavior make it suitable for investigations into tumor-host signaling, drug resistance mechanisms and effective treatment approaches for SCLC.
