Description

The sebaceous glands are important skin appendages that are widely distributed and primarily function to synthesize and secrete sebum. This sebum moisturizes the skin and hair, inhibits and kills bacteria on the skin surface, and, along with sweat, forms a lipid membrane that is closely related to the integrity of the skin barrier. The cells are derived from post-surgical hamster sebaceous gland tissue and have been identified as positive for CK7 immunofluorescence staining.
