  • Description
    HK-2 is a proximal tubule epithelial cell line that was originally isolated from normal kidney tissue from an adult male. HK-2 were established and immortalized by transduction with HPV-16 E6/E7 genes via a recombinant retrovirus. These cells exhibit a well-differentiated phenotype characteristic of proximal tubular cells (PTCs), expressing genes like EGF and relying on it for growth and survival. Positive for markers such as alkaline phosphatase, gamma glutamyltranspeptidase, and cytokeratin, as well as integrins and fibronectin, HK-2 cells are distinctively negative for factor VIII related antigen, 6.19 antigen. They retain functional traits of PTCs, including sugar transport sensitivity to phlorizin, adenylate cyclase response to parathyroid hormone, and gluconeogenesis ability demonstrated by glycogen production and storage.
