  • Description
    Human Intestinal Myofibroblasts (HIMFs) are isolated from whole adult human intestines. They play a critical role in intestinal growth and development, repair, tumorigenesis, water and electrolyte transport, inflammation, and fibrosis. HIMFs can secrete the epidermal growth factor receptor ligand Amphiregulin (AREG) under the induction of TNF-α. In addition, in intestinal inflammation (such as Crohn’s disease), myofibroblasts are activated, accompanied by excessive deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) components (including collagen and fibronectin), ultimately driving the process of intestinal fibrosis. This fibrotic response is mediated by TGF-β/Smad signaling and involves cross-talk with immune cells (particularly macrophages) and epithelial cells.
