Cell Name: Human Liver Intrahepatic Biliary Epithelial Cells-Passage 1

  • Description
Intrahepatic biliary epithelial cells (IBEpiC), also known as Primary Human Cholangiocytes, are derived from whole liver tissue, and line the intrahepatic bile ducts—a network of small ducts within the liver that transport bile. After primary culture, these cells are cryopreserved. Intrahepatic biliary epithelial cells (IBEpiC) are involved in physiological processes such as liver metabolism and excretion. Studies have shown that Intrahepatic biliary epithelial cells (IBEpiC) are related to both innate and adaptive immune responses. Markers for IBEpiC include KRT7, KRT19, CK7, CK19, SOX9, and SPP1. During culture, repeated freezing and thawing should be avoided.

  • Application
Human IBEpiC cells serve as an in vitro model for studying the pathogenesis of intrahepatic bile duct diseases, which is crucial for improving diagnosis and treatment. Cholangiopathy, a chronic liver disease, includes primary biliary cirrhosis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, polycystic liver disease, and cholangiocarcinoma. Due to the lack of effective medical treatments, cholangiopathy often progresses to end-stage liver disease with high morbidity and mortality. Therefore, studying immune regulation in Human IBEpiC cells will help develop new genetic or pharmacological strategies to treat cholangiopathy. These cells are not suitable for liver transplantation.
