They are primarily responsible for the synthesis and remodeling of the extracellular matrix (ECM), which is essential for maintaining tissue structure and function. In vitro, these cells grow adherently. Human Lung Fibroblasts are non-tumorigenic and retain a stable karyotype under normal culture conditions.They serve as the central mediators of cellular migration and differentiation during wound healing, responding to injury and chronic inflammation by orchestrating tissue repair and regeneration. They also possess innate immune functions. For example, upon exposure to interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF), they can produce proinflammatory interleukins such as IL-6 and IL-8
