Human Macular Degeneration Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells are immune cells derived from the peripheral blood of patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of vision loss in older adults. These cells primarily include lymphocytes (T cells, B cells, NK cells) and monocytes. PBMCs play a critical role in immune regulation and inflammatory responses. In AMD, dysfunctional PBMCs contribute to chronic inflammation and oxidative stress, driving retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and photoreceptor damage.
