Cell Name: Human Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs)

  • Description
Human Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) are a heterogeneous population of immune cells derived from peripheral blood, primarily consisting of lymphocytes (T cells, B cells, and NK cells) and monocytes, with smaller proportions of dendritic cells and progenitor cells. Morphologically, PBMCs are typically as small and round in shape. Functionally, they play a pivotal role in orchestrating both adaptive and innate immune responses: T cells and B cells mediate antigen-specific immunity, NK cells carry out cytotoxic killing, while monocytes differentiate into macrophages or dendritic cells to regulate inflammation and antigen presentation. Dysregulation of these cells can lead to chronic inflammation, immune deficiency, or hyperactivation.

Human Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) can be used to analyze immune cell functions, such as T cell proliferation, cytokine secretion, and antibody production, making them useful for valuating vaccine efficacy or investigating the mechanisms of immunomodulatory drugs. These cells can also be used to detect virus-specific immune responses, study immune escape mechanisms in the tumor microenvironment, and develop immunotherapy strategies such as CAR-T cell therapy.
