    Human Placental Vascular Endothelial Cells (HPEC) are primary cells isolated from the microvasculature of full-term human placenta, specifically the fetal-side chorionic villi. These cells exhibit a polygonal or cobblestone morphology and frow as adherent monolayers with distinct endothelial characteristics (1). Functionally, HPEC play critical roles in placental angiogenesis, vascular barrier maintenance, and maternofetal nutrient exchange. Dysregulation of HPEC is linked to preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. These cells are characterized by high expression of CD31, VE-cadherin, and von Willebrand factor (vWF)(2). HPEC demonstrate limited proliferative capacity, making them suitable for short-term in vitro culture.
