  • Description
    Human Renal Glomerular Endothelial Cells (HRGEC) are primary cells isolated from human kidney tissue, specifically the glomerular capillaries. These cells are cryopreserved at passage 0 (P0) or passage 1 (P1) and exhibit a cobblestone-like morphology with adherent growth properties. They form the innermost layer of the glomerular filtration barrier and regulate vascular permeability through interactions with podocytes and the basement membrane(1). Functionally, HRGEC express markers such as endothelin-1 and adhesion (e.g., ICAM-1, VCAM-1), which are upregulated during inflammatory or thrombotic processes. Dysfunction of these cells is implicated in diabetic nephropathy, glomerulosclerosis, and albuminuria, due to glycocalyx degradation and altered VE-cadherin expression under pathological conditions. HRGEC exhibit limited proliferative capacity and are not recommended for extended passaging to maintain population purity.
