    Human Schwann Cells are derived from the peripheral nervous system. They are a type of glial cells and play an important role in supporting the development, function, and regeneration of peripheral nerves. These cells are able to secrete various growth factors to promote axonal growth, such as nerve growth factor, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, ciliary neurotrophic factor, neurotrophin-3, fibroblast growth factor and conserved dopamine neurotrophic factor. Schwann cells exhibit bipolar or tripolar morphology and grow in an adherent monolayer in vitro.Following nerve injury, Schwann cells undergo phenotypic changes to create a regenerative microenvironment by clearing myelin debris, forming regeneration tracks (Büngner bands), and upregulating growth factor production.They express characteristic markers such as S100β, p75^NTR, GFAP, and myelin protein zero (MPZ). Their plasticity and regenerative capacity make them promising candidates for cell-based therapies in peripheral nerve repair and neurodegenerative diseases.
