Cell Name: Kelly

Human Brain Neuroblastoma cell line. The Kelly cell line has been established from a patient with neuroblastoma. They possess a genomic amplification of the N-myc gene.

  • Description
Kelly is a human neuroblastoma cell line originally derived from the tumor of a 1-year-old female patient. It exhibits neuronal morphology with adherent growth properties and a doubling time of approximately 24–30 hours. Kelly cells harbor MYCN proto-oncogene amplification and 17q gain, leading to elevated N-myc RNA and protein expression, which correlates with high-risk neuroblastoma phenotypes. The line expresses key neuroblastoma-associated markers, including GD2, NB84, while showing elevated LMO1 expression. Kelly cells are tumorigenic and demonstrate metastatic potential in preclinical in vivo models, displaying aggressive migration behavior and sensitivity to MYCN-targeting therapies.

The Kelly cell line is a valuable tool in neuroblastoma research, particularly for studying the molecular mechanisms of MYCN-driven tumorigenesis and evaluating therapeutic strategies. Researchers have utilized Kelly cells to investigate the role of polysialic acid (PSA) in regulating tumor cell growth and neuronal differentiation via neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) signaling disruption. Additionally, the Kelly cell line has been instrumental in exploring the inhibitory role of protein tyrosine phosphatase SHP1 in Ret oncogene activity, providing valuable insights into oncogenic signaling pathways. These s provide critical insights into preclinical drug screening, gene function ayalysis, and the exploration of novel neuroblastoma treatment modalities.
