Cell Name: MOG-G-UVW

Human brain astrocytoma. Established from an anaplastic astrocytoma of normal adult brain. Able to support the growth of HIV.

  • Description
MOG-G-UVW is a human brain astrocytoma cell line that was originally isolated from the adult brain tissue of an age-unspecified male patient with anaplastic astrocytoma. MOG-G-UVW exhibits epithelial-like morphology and adherent culture properties. These cells are telomerase-positive and lack alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT). A study of alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT) inhibition in human glioma cell lines demonstrated that MOG-G-UVW are telomerase-positive and ALT-negative. The specific characteristics of MOG-G-UVW are able to support the growth of HIV. Therefore, it’s also applicable for research on HIV infection.

The MOG-G-UVW cell line holds significant s in various research areas. Firstly, it serves as a valuable model for tumorigenicity studies, particularly in the context of human anaplastic astrocytoma cells, enabling the investigation of the effects of growth factor receptor inhibitors alone or in combination with radiation. Secondly, it provides a platform to explore the biological impact of chemicals on cell proliferation in anaplastic astrocytomas. Additionally, MOG-G-UVW is utilized to elucidate the protective role of KATP channel openers. Moreover, the cell line has been instrumental in studying and determining the radiopharmaceutical s of astatine-211, specifically by analyzing its reduction pattern. Lastly, MOG-G-UVW contributes significantly to virus studies, such as research related to HIV.
