  • Description
    The NCI-H322 cell line is a human epithelial tumor cell line derived from a 52-year-old Caucasian male with primary bronchioalveolar carcinoma, a non-small cell lung cancer. The cells display epithelial morphology with Clara cell-like ultrastructural characteristics and grow as adherent monolayers under standard conditions (37°C, 5% CO₂). They are tumorigenic in athymic mice. NCI-H322 cells express glutathione-S-transferase, phenol sulfotransferase, and surfactant protein A (SP-A), but lack UDP-glucuronosyltransferase expression. They are ideal for investigating carcinogen metabolism, specifically benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), and their cytotoxic response to BaP suggests involvement of metabolic products like 7,8-diol-BaP. NCI-H322 cells are widely used in lung carcinogenesis, SP-A regulation, and preclinical drug testing targeting tumor suppressor genes and anti-cancer pathways.
