OSCA-8 is a canine osteosarcoma cell line derived from a left-shoulder tumor of a 1-year old intact male Rottweiler.

Description

OSCA-8 is a canine osteosarcoma cell line that was originally isolated from the humerus of a 2-year-old male Rottweiler with osteosarcoma. OSCA-8 exhibits spindle-shaped morphology and adherent culture properties. This cell line is tumorigenic; it gives rise to both orthotopic and heterotopic tumor xenografts in SCID mice. The genomic profile of OSCA-8 resembles the most aggressive type of osteosarcoma. Osteosarcoma arises from primitive transformed cells of mesenchymal origin, which demonstrate osteoblastic differentiation and generate malignant osteoid.
