    Rabbit Corneal Endothelial Cells (RCECs) are primary cells derived from rabbit corneal endothelium. In vitro, they establish tight junctions and maintain Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase pump activity, essential for corneal hydration and transparency. They proliferate under explant culture or enzymatic isolation and exhibit polygonal morphology that may transition to fibroblastic under TGF‑β/bFGF stimulation. RCECs can undergo endothelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) in response to growth factors, leading to α‑SMA and vimentin expression—making them valuable for modeling wound healing and endothelial fibrosis. These cells are widely used in ophthalmic research, tissue-engineering, and therapeutic screening.
