Description

The retinal pigment epithelium is located between the choroid and the outer segments of photosensitive cells. It serves as a transport channel for ions, water, nutrients, and metabolic waste products between the subretinal space and choroidal vessels.
The retinal pigment epithelium is involved in the visual cycle, phagocytosing shed outer segments of photosensitive cells to maintain the excitability of photosensitive cells. Additionally, it secretes various growth factors to help maintain the structural integrity of choroidal vascular endothelial cells and photosensitive cells.
primary rabbit retinal pigment epithelial cells are derived from the normal eye tissues of experimental animals. Each vial contains 5×10^5 cells with a volume of 1 ml. Immunofluorescence staining for cytokeratin-8 (CK-8) is positive. The cell purity is identified to be higher than 90%. The cells are free from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast, and fungi.
