These non-tumorigenic, non-metastatic neural precursors exhibit bipolar or multipolar morphology and grow adherently in vitro. They can differentiate into oligodendrocytes or astrocytes depending on culture conditions. OPCs express A2B5, O4, and NG2, detected via immunofluorescence or flow cytometry, and lack MBP/PLP expression. They proliferate in response to PDGF and bFGF.
