    Rat tracheal epithelial cells are derived from the tracheal tissue of Sprague-Dawley rats in the laboratory. These cells can develop into mucociliary, mucous, or squamous phenotypes, with the mucociliary phenotype being the most faithful to the in vivo tracheal epithelial morphology. Following primary culture, these cells are cryopreserved. The squamous phenotype is characterized by the loss of type II transglutaminase and keratin 18, accompanied by the expression of squamous markers such as type I transglutaminase and keratin 13. Repeated freezing and thawing should be avoided during the culture process.
