Rat islet cell tumour. RIN-5F is a secondary clone of the rat islet tumour cell line RIN-m. Cloning was performed by limited dilution in RPMI 1640, 10%FBS and 20% conditioned medium. The conditioned medium contained somatotropic hormonees and prolactin being produced by rat pituitary tumour cells GH3.

    RIN-5F is a rat pancreatic β-cell tumor cell line derived from the pancreatic islet β-cell tumor tissue of a male NEDH strain rat. This cell line exhibits epithelial-like morphology and adherent growth characteristics. RIN-5F cells robustly express key β-cell markers such as INS-2 (insulin) and GLUT2, along with genes involved in insulin secretion. The cells retain functional responsiveness to insulin signaling pathways. Due to these features, RIN-m5F is widely used in diabetes research, particularly in studies related to oxidative stress, drug protection mechanisms, and genetic modifications.
