Cell Name: T-47D

The cells express the WNT7B oncogene. The T-47 line was isolated by I. Keydar from a pleural effusion obtained from a 54 year old female patient with an infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the breast.

  • Description
T-47D is a human epithelial cell line originally isolated from a pleural effusion obtained from a 54-year-old female patient with infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the breast. T-47D exhibits epithelial-like morphology and adherent culture properties. The karyotype of T-47D shows hypotriploid, with 50% of cells having a modal chromosome number of 65, and a polyploidy rate of 0.8. These cells are known for their high expression of the Wnt-7b oncogene and are positive for estrogen and progesterone receptors. T-47D is tumorigenic; it is able to form colonies in soft agar.

The T-47D cell line plays a pivotal role in advancing breast cancer and hormone receptor-related research. These cells have been instrumental in investigating the impact of progesterone on breast cancer and in deciphering the transcriptional regulation induced by various therapeutic agents. Furthermore, T-47D cells can be used to establish xenograft models in immunodeficient mice, enabling researchers to perform drug testing, assess receptor status, and monitor changes in angiogenesis—thus offering crucial insights into cancer treatment strategies.
