  • Description
TCMK-1 is a mouse renal tubular cell line originally derived from the kidney tissue of C3H mouse through SV-40 mediated transformation. These cells exhibits epithelial morphology and grow adherently in culture. TCMK-1 cells express a positive SV40 T-antigen and possess a karyotype model number of 78, with a range from 64 to 157 chromosomes. Most cells contain 2-6 acrocentric chromosomes with secondary constrictions, along with 1-4 biarmed chromosomes per cell. For optimal growth and viability, it is recommended to subculture TCMK-1 cells at a ratio of 1:2 to 1:8 and to refresh the culture medium every 2 to 3 days.

The TCMK-1 cell line is a valuable model for studying renal pathophysiology, particularly in the context of renal tubular injury. It is widely used to investigate mechanisms of mitochondrial dysfunction, hypoxia/reoxygenation injury, and sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (AKI). They are indtrumental in drug development endeavors aimed at preventing or ameliorating injury and inhibiting renal tubular cell apoptosis. Moreover, TCMK-1 cells play a crucial role in elucidating related regulation pathways involved in renal injury and repair, offering critical insights for the development of novel treatments for AKI and other kidney-related disorders.
